20 MnCr5 (Case Hardening Steel) is a medium‑carbon, low‑alloy case hardening steel with about 0.20 % carbon and added manganese and chromium for hardenability. It’s designed for induction or carburising hardening, producing a tough, ductile core and a wear‑resistant surface. Ideal for gears, shafts, axles, pins, and bushes, it offers good fatigue strength, dimensional stability, and machinability in the soft annealed state, making it widely used in automotive and general engineering applications.

Key Features

  • Low Carbon, Alloyed Steel – ~0.20 % C with manganese and chromium for enhanced hardenability.
  • High Wear Resistance – Ideal for gears, shafts, axles, and pinions.
  • Dimensional Stability – Maintains shape after heat treatment.
  • Versatile Heat Treatment – Suitable for carburizing, induction hardening, and nitriding.
